“You’ll see a real different guy.”
So said Paul Manafort, Trump’s senior aid, and likely replacement for Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s fired campaign manager. He went on to say as reported by the Washington Times in April:
“When he’s out on the stage, when he’s talking about the kinds of things he’s talking about on the stump, he’s projecting an image that’s for that purpose.”
“You’ll start to see more depth of the person, the real person. You’ll see a real different guy,”
“He gets it. The part that he’s been playing is evolving into the part that now you’ve been expecting, but he wasn’t ready for, because he had first to complete the first phase. The negatives will come down. The image is going to change.”
The New Donald Trump? So what’s wrong with the old?
Let’s break down Manafort’s explanation:
- “He’s projecting an image.” = He’s a reality star actor playing a part without any real convictions or moral compass to drive him.
- “…he had to complete the first phase…The image is going to change.” = He had to convince droves of people to pay attention to him and did so by feeding their anger at the establishment, saying outrageous things to fuel their anger, with no real, workable plan to change anything.
- “You’ll see a different guy.” = Really? So if you are a Trumpie, what’s wrong with the old guy? If you have cast your lot with him then why does he need to change?
Of course, the answer is that Trump can’t win without the support of the conservative base of the Republican party.
Donald Trump – The Chameleon
You know what a chameleon is, right? The little lizard can change its skin coloration to match its surroundings. The ability is a defense mechanism that allows it to survive in a world surrounded by predators, but at heart… under the skin… it is still the same lizard.
Enter Donald Trump, the face of the man who will make America great again. Mind you, it is not you or I who can do this, but only The Donald. He is our savior. Without him, we can never be great again… ever. At least, that is the argument he and his throngs of loyal Trumpies make.
Except that now, Trump needs more than the drones who follow him, applauding every slogan, every demeaning characterization of someone who disagrees with him, every debasement of our values as a free society. Trump needs the real conservatives. You know, the nearly two-thirds of Republican voters who opposed him during the primaries.
So now it’s time to change colors like a chameleon and pretend that all the bombast and anger, the lack of any understanding of the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution, was just a show for the masses and not indicative of his true character.
Trump’s positions change more often than a baby changes diapers…and for the same reason.
Want proof of Donald Trump’s ability to change his colors? Following are a few of his position changes:
Current position on Abortion: Pro-life, even to the point of punishing a woman who receives an abortion (one of many statements he has had to retract)
Former position on Abortion: In his own words to Tim Russert, “I’m very pro-choice.”
Current position on Health Care: Wants to see a private system without artificial lines around the states. Presumably, that means to open markets and increase competition, not a bad idea, if not well articulated)
Former position on Health Care: Proposed universal healthcare, single payer system that takes Obamacare to new and even more restrictive levels.
Current position on Gun Control Laws: “I am a 2nd amendment person. If we had guns in California on the other side where the bullets went in the different direction, you wouldn’t have 14 or 15 people dead right now.”
(Note- Trump has come under fire for another position change in the last week, in which he stated that he would work with the National Rifle Association to ensure that people on the Terrorist Watch List cannot purchase firearms, a position the NRA, and clear thinking voters, oppose since the list is full of innocent American who have done nothing more than piss off the Obama administration… but that’s another post.)
Former position on Gun Control Laws: “I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons, and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.”
I could go on… really, for pages… but let me just add one more flip-flop that occurred between January 2016 and now.
Current position on Gun Free Zones as of May 22, 2016 – Warning, you will be confused: “I don’t want to have guns in classrooms although, in some cases, teachers should have guns in classrooms, frankly. Because, teachers are, you know, things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable. You look at some of our schools, unbelievable what’s going on. But I’m not advocating guns in classrooms. But remember in some cases, and a lot of people have made this case, teachers should be able to have guns, trained teachers should be able to have guns in classrooms.”
Former position on Gun Free Zones as of January 8, 2016: “I will get rid of gun-free zones on school, and—you have to—and on military bases. My first day, it gets signed, okay? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones.”
Bottom line…Donald Trump changes positions more often than a baby changes diapers. As soon as he fills one up with… well, you know… it’s time to change.
The Great Awakening
I suppose we all have a tendency to want to find the magic bullet that will solve our problems. One shot and they’re gone… poof.
Unfortunately, the problems facing our nation have been growing for years, and guess who is to blame. We are.
That’s right you, and I, have allowed the current system of political aristocracy to flourish. We have empowered and enriched politicians because they promised us… stuff… handouts, welfare, tax breaks, crop subsidies, special loans, investment credits, favorable regulations… more and more stuff.
The current, system is merely a symptom of the problem. The problem is us… the voters who sold our votes for something other than Freedom.
Changing the direction in which our country is headed will not be easy. A Great Awakening to the principles of Liberty, Freedom and Individual Responsibility upon which the founders built our Constitution is required.
The face to Make America Great Again – Look in the mirror
No, friends, Donald Trump is not the face to make America great. He is merely an expression of the anger people feel at the loss of America’s greatness.
Want to see the real face to “Make America Great Again”? Look in the mirror.
